Supported Employment (via Waiver & DVR)

Through partnerships with Home & Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), ASAP’s Supported Employment program helps adults with disabilities secure real jobs in their communities — and stay employed over time.

Our Approach
  • Integrated funding strategy: We coordinate waiver‑funded employment supports and DVR services so supports can begin while DVR authorization is in process, ensuring the most effective funding pathways.
  • Person‑centered job development: We explore career interests, assess strengths, and identify employers that align with each participant’s goals.
  • Job coaching & supports: On‑the‑job coaching delivered individually or in small groups — training in tasks, guidance with workplace integration, and fade‑out plans that maximize independence.
  • Natural supports & accommodations: We promote use of coworker/supervisor supports and workplace accommodations to reduce reliance on paid supports over time.
  • Sustainable employment focus: Our aim is Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) — jobs alongside non‑disabled peers, at least minimum wage or higher, with access to benefits and advancement.

How It Works with DVR & Waiver
  • When a person expresses interest in employment, we initiate a referral to DVR. While DVR determines eligibility and authorizes services, waiver‑based supports may begin so employment progress is not delayed.
  • Once DVR services are authorized, they take priority; in some cases, waiver supports can continue in conjunction if additional presence or supervision is needed.
  • Job coaching and development are designed to fade over time — the aim is for each person to perform job tasks independently and sustain employment without external supports.

Who We Serve
  • Adults with intellectual, developmental, or related disabilities.
  • Individuals who qualify for waiver and/or DVR funding.
  • People motivated to work or explore employment with supportive assistance.

Why Choose ASAP’s Supported Employment
  • Deep expertise coordinating multiple funding sources.
  • Emphasis on dignity, choice, and real workplace integration.
  • Commitment to fading support toward independence.
  • Strong collaborative relationships with DVR, employers, and community partners.
